The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali
AN OLD TEXT FOR A RESTLESS MIND
A 10-week online course with Josh Blatter
Thursdays, January 7 to March 11, 2027 · 5:30–6:30pm PST · Live on Zoom
Most of us come to yoga through the body. We learn the postures, maybe some breathing, and practice that way for years without being shown the rest. Patanjali gives asana a few lines in the Yoga Sutras. The rest of the text is about the mind: why it holds on so tightly, what helps it settle, and how to live with more steadiness once it does.
This course is a slow, careful reading of that text, together, over ten weeks.
What we'll study
We'll go through the Sutras verse by verse, looking at what Patanjali actually says and what each teaching asks of us in daily life. Along the way we'll see how the text frames the whole practice, including Asana, Pranayama, and Meditation, and why yoga was never meant to stop at the edge of the mat. The aim is understanding you can use: a clearer relationship with your own mind, and a practice that makes more sense to you.
We meet live on Zoom every Thursday from 5:30-6:30PM PST. Each session is part lecture and part open discussion, so there's room for your questions and for the conversation to go where the group needs it to. Every class is recorded. If you miss a week or live in a different time zone, you can still follow along.
Who it's for
Teachers, students, and anyone who's curious. You don't need a background in philosophy or any particular level of practice. If you've wondered what yoga is beyond the physical practice, this is a good place to start.
What's included
The course includes ten live one-hour sessions, a reflection email after each class, and one year of access to all class recordings.
Tuition
$499. Space is limited to keep the discussion personal.
