FINDING MY WAY
Josh began his studies of the Yoga tradition in 2006 shortly after arriving in San Diego from Boulder, CO. Initially he saw Yoga as a remedy for his many years of injuries from skateboarding, snowboarding and BMX, but his yoga practice revealed something far greater. For the first time Josh found a language and set of teachings that mirrored the ways in which he was examining the world. This left him with a desire for knowledge and thirst for experience. Not long after, Josh obtained his first Yoga Teacher Certification and began instructing as a full time career.
In 2012, Josh stumbled upon a lineage that would shape the course of his practice and teachings forever. It inaugurated an ongoing and in depth studies with Chase Bossart, a student of T.K.V. Desikachar. This immersion into the healing and therapeutic aspects of Yoga would eventually lead to his first extended stay in India and studies at the Krishnamacharya Yoga Mandiram in Chennai. His trip to India stoked the fire within that continues to keep the passion alive.
THE PRACTICE, TEACHINGS AND THE YOGA TRADITION
The Art of Balance and Mindful Being is my method and approach to the practice, teachings, and tradition of yoga. This methodology has evolved over 15 years of teaching and working with hundreds of thousands of students and teachers. In response to yoga’s shift toward aesthetics over functionality, my approach emphasizes purposeful, intelligent movement while staying true to the core principles of the practice.
At its core, my teaching prioritizes slowing down. I strip away unnecessary and often performative elements to cultivate a grounded, intentional practice. Through carefully crafted sequences, I focus on personalized alignment, injury prevention, and honoring the body’s natural movement patterns. By weaving together classical yoga with alternative movement modalities, this approach creates an environment where individuals can feel whole and the mind can rest in focused presence. Balance is not the absence of movement but the ability to realign, adapt, and flourish amidst life’s unpredictability. Ultimately, the Art of Balance and Mindful Being is a methodology that offers a deeply nourishing practice, supporting students and teachers in fostering greater harmony within themselves and with the world around them.
